The Basic PPO Plan From Blue Cross

If you’re in good health, you may not need insurance coverage for every doctor’s visit. But a sudden trip to the hospital can mean a much bigger bill – and a whole lot of debt if you don’t have savings to pay it. The Basic plan from BC Life & Health is a PPO that covers you for hospital care and other expensive health services.

The Basic Plan does not include prescription drug or maternity coverage. If you rely on medications or are planning on starting a family, consider one of the other Blue Cross plans.

Basic PPO Plan Features

The Basic PPO plan is a good choice for people in reasonably good health who are looking to save money on their insurance premiums. With the Basic PPO, you get:

  • You choice of deductible
Choose either a $1,000 or $2,500 deductible. The higher the deductible, the lower your monthly premiums. If you’re insuring your family on the Basic PPO, only 2 members of your family have to meet their deductible for you all to start receiving coverage.
  • 80% coverage for most services
You only pay 20% of the cost of inpatient and outpatient hospital care, ambulance services, and emergency care.
  • Waived deductible on preventive care
Visits to a Blue Cross HealthyCheck center are as low as $25, with no deductible to meet. You also get 80% coverage on routine mammogram and pap tests – also with no deductible.

With the Basic PPO plan, you’ll be responsible for paying most of the costs of regular trips to your doctor. But once you meet your out-of-pocket maximum – the total amount of your medical bills you’re responsible for – your plan pays for 100% of the cost of doctor’s office visits.
