Insightful Blue Cross of California counselors are available to help answer questions about health care and medical insurance coverage.
With the red tape that exists in health care today, it is important to feel that your current health insurance company is an advocate for you and your loved ones. If you do find that you have questions and concerns regarding your insurance, California’s Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program (HICAP) helps individuals and their families with Medicare problems and other health insurance issues.
Volunteer counselors numbering more than 500 are ready to offer you unbiased information about Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, managed care, long-term care planning and health insurance, simply by posing your questions.
HICAP counselors are located throughout the United States and they are trained to inform Californians about a variety of health care issues. They are prepared to address any question and if they cannot assist you, they will find someone who can. When we are discussing the complexities of medical care, it is vital to receive correct information.
In nearly 58 counties, you can also receive individual counseling and education about health insurance and other kinds of medical care. Some legal services are also offered through the Area Agencies on Aging.
What is the motivation behind the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program? To assist with your health care concerns and to make certain that you and your loved ones have access to the best care at all times.
Counselors are now available for appointments in many settings in senior centers, libraries, hospitals and community centers. Your local HICAP agency will be able to provide you with a copy of HICAP’s “Taking Care of Tomorrow, A Consumers Guide to Long-Term Care”, for free. This pamphlet will also include information on California’s partnership for Long-Term Care.
