Choosing the Right California Health Insurance Plan
Choosing a health insurance plan for yourself, your family or your business can be a bewildering prospect, since there are so many options offered by various insurance providers in California. Health insurance plan quotes can help you to compare offers, and informative electronic brochures which list similar plans’ benefits and deductibles side by side make it easier to make an informed decision. When choosing personal insurance, it is good to know the different between PPO and HMO health plans.
California Health Insurance Plan Types – PPO versus HMO
Two of the basic types of health insurance plan available in California are HMO and PPO plans. ‘HMO’ or ‘Health Maintenance Organization’ plans generally have lower premiums than PPO plans, and require members to choose a primary physician. Some plans require members to obtain a referral to see a specialist. PPO or ‘Preferred Provider Organization’ plans have slightly higher plans but are a little more flexible than HMO plans, providing some cover for out-of-network health services. These plans are also less fussy about referrals.
