Affordable Insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield of California
Healthcare services can be expensive – the cost of an emergency operation can easily reach upwards of a hundred thousand dollars – and many Californians are inadequately insured so that they are unable to afford even basic regular health services. Blue Cross Blue Shield of California provides a number of affordable health insurance plans, and through the large Blue Shield network, members can choose the physicians and hospitals they prefer to use.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of California – PPO versus HMO
There are two primary types of healthcare policy available through Blue Cross Blue Shield of California (not including Medicare supplements). PPO or Preferred Provider Organization plans are particularly flexible – no referrals are required if you need to see a specialist, and you can easily change your doctor. HMO plans have reduced premiums but are less flexible, as a primary physician must be chosen, and it is harder to switch between doctors. Still, HMO plans are viable options for families as well as individuals who do not travel extensively.
