Covered California, the state’s health insurance exchange, recently announced the launch of its 2015 outreach campaign aimed at those who are eligible for coverage in the marketplace.
Individuals who do not have access to affordable employer-sponsored coverage are eligible for plans through Covered California. Depending on income, many will qualify for cost-sharing subsidies and/or tax breaks to help pay for coverage.
The Covered California outreach campaign will include $46 million in new statewide advertising and nearly $15 million in new community outreach grant funding. Covered California will be awarding selected organizations with between $50,000 and $750,000 in grants, based on their ability to effectively communicate, educate, and enroll Californians in marketplace plans, as well as their experience with specific populations (e.g. working with the Latino community).
Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee said that experience from the first open enrollment period that ended earlier this year will help guide community partners in forming strategies to reach target populations during the renewal and open-enrollment periods.
“We learned some important lessons in year one,” said Lee in the announcement. “We know how important it is for consumers to get one-on-one help from trusted sources in their communities where they live, work, and play.”
Open Enrollment Dates and Projections
Open enrollment begins November 15, 2014 and runs through February 15, 2015, and Covered California anticipates enrollment of 1.7 million Californians, in total, by the end of open enrollment in 2015. The majority of enrollees (1.5 million) will receive subsidized coverage.
